Bible First: Daily Discipleship

Today is all we have. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. Before you know it, your children are all grown up and that daily, incessant, demanding time with them is gone . . . and you'll wish for it back. How much of our lives do we waste on the past and the future? We rehash, re-analyze, regret, or rethink the past; we worry, fret, plan, dream, prepare for the future. But we often neglect the present.

In the Bible God very wisely teaches us to live in the present. Jesus told us not to be anxious and worried about the future because each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34). In other words, just deal with today; focus on today. Paul said he forgets the past and presses forward to what God has for him (Philippians 3:13-14). In other words, don't live in the past, regretting and wishing to re-do; take hold of today and use it to press forward. James exhorts us not to boast about tomorrow, all the things we're going to do, because we don't know what tomorrow holds and whether we will even have tomorrow (James 4:13-17). Moses prayed that God would help him to understand the number of his days so that he could gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90: 12). In other words, pray that God would enable you to make each day—this day—count.

Any individual day in the life of a homeschool mom can be daunting and overwhelming—too much to do and too little time to get it all in. But instead of choosing stress and becoming harried, choose instead, as we often hear in our culture, to "seize the moment"—not in a self-centered, make-something-happen-for-yourself kind of way, but in living this moment fully with your children and making this moment, this day count. We only have the present.

When it comes to discipling our children, each day matters. Each day we are building into their lives what they will become and what they will take with them into adulthood. Once the day is gone, we can't go back and recapture it or do it over. What are you doing today to imprint God's Word on their hearts? Are you making this a must-do, top priority?

An Anger Check

I was reading Psalm 106 this morning. Verses 32-33 caught my attention. Here is another insight God is giving us about anger. The two verses really are a repeat of each other showing the cause-effect
